Hesperia
Hesperia is a textual Multi-User Dungeon (MUD), originating from the ENVY 2.0 source code. For three years, we, the Hesperian Staff, have been adding and altering features to suit our vision of the game. A brief overview of some of the most interesting fresh features is given here. The list is by no means complete and is just here to give you an idea of what we've done so far.

First I will give some more details about the game. Hesperia is a Medieval Fantasy MUD which consists of a completely unique world. All areas have been written exclusively for Hesperia and were co-ordinated very precisely. We first decided on the general outline of the world, its most important places and a brief but complete history of the world. We then created over fifty area ideas and linked these to each other, all in accordance with the outline and history decided upon earlier. Only when we were convinced everything was consistent did we start on writing areas at steady pace. At the moment we have enough areas to provide an exciting game and more will follow in reasonable time, all living up to our standards of historical correctness. The neat thing is that we try to share this history with you throughout the game. Furthermore, areas often have unexpected connections with other areas, e.g. the solving of a quest in area A may require an object from area B. The latter thing is rare in muds which mostly use the standard areas. We do not wish to pin ourselves down on being a certain type of MUD. The Hesperian Immortals are friendly towards newcomers and offer assistance to troubled players of all levels. Our motto is 'We are here to entertain you.'.

As for the game itself, you can create as many characters as you like, but the maximum amount of characters you may login at one time is three. During the creation of your character you can choose from ten races and eight classes. Experienced players can start right away, whereas total newcomers to Hesperia are guided through a MUD School first, where you can learn all the basic skills needed to play Hesperia. With the start of the real game you face an enormous challenge. In order to become a successful player you will have to befriend other players, explore the world and gain the necessary experience to rise in both level and rank. Now all beginning is hard and it sure will take some persistence to become a successful player. Without a real challenge however, the game would not be much fun. You will find Hesperia to be able to offer a challenge for years. You start at the Earthling rank and after five levels are promoted into the Recruit rank. At level 45 Recruit, you can try and become an Acolyte, which offers 500 levels in total. An Acolyte level 500 can then try and claim Independence. Independents again are up to 500 levels. Now all these levels of all these ranks are accompanied by improved statistics, a multitude of new spells and skills, as well as a number of exciting new features. So it's not just more of the same if you rise in rank, but a really new experience. We will stop here now and let you find out yourself.
